According to Mobile Index, an app statistical analysis platform, Netflix topped the list with 14.49 million active monthly users as of June. Tving (7.283,168) and Coupang Play (6.956,712) followed.

The fight for second place between TVing and Coupang Play is fierce every month. In January, TVing was ahead, but in February and April, Coupang Play took the second place. In May and June, TVing regained the position. So far, it is a 3-3 tie.

In the first half of this year, TVing was slightly ahead of all MAUs, but Coupang Play recorded 2.47 million installations in the mobile app ranking based on accumulated new installations, beating TVing (1.72 million).

Sports are what the two companies, which are in a tight race, have put to the forefront. These services are trying to attract customers by using sports, which are popular contents.

TVing holds exclusive rights to broadcast the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) league and attracts consumers. In particular, TVing is providing differentiated viewing experiences such as providing various promotions through collaboration with each club and multi-view (a service that allows users to watch multiple games on one screen at the same time) to absorb the baseball fandom that opened the era of 10 million spectators last year.

In particular, the service provides unique contents such as "fandom broadcasting" to enhance the characteristics of baseball fans. Fandom broadcasting is an interactive service that selects three games every weekend, and allows baseball fans and the representative hosts of each team to watch the game in real-time. The contents are differentiated from existing baseball broadcasting.

Coupang Play is soccer. It is bringing to the forefront the Coupang Play Series, which invites prestigious overseas soccer clubs to play in Korea. This year, it invited prestigious English Premier League teams Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United. Tottenham has Son Heung-min, the captain of the Korean national soccer team, and Newcastle includes Park Seung-soo, who transferred from Suwon Samsung.

On July 30, Newcastle will face the "Team K League" consisting of K-League players. On August 3, a match between Tottenham and Newcastle will be held in Korea. Coupang Play plans to heat up the atmosphere and increase the enjoyment through the preview show.

An industry official said, "Each OTT is interested in the sports area," adding, "It seems that some considerations have been given to the aspect that it is more loyal than other contents."
